Epilepsy Awareness
Epilepsy is a neurological condition that causes recurring seizures. A seizure happens when there is a sudden surge of electrical activity in the brain. These seizures can vary widely—from brief moments of staring or confusion to full-body convulsions.
According to the Epilepsy Foundation, more than 3.4 million people in the United States live with epilepsy, and many more are impacted as family members, friends, coworkers, and caregivers.
For many people with epilepsy, the biggest challenges aren’t always the seizures themselves—it’s the misunderstanding and stigma surrounding the condition.
Awareness helps people:
In industries like HVAC, where teamwork, safety, and community are essential, awareness can make a meaningful difference.
Knowing how to respond can help keep someone safe. If you witness a seizure:
✔ Stay calm and remain with the person
✔ Move objects away to prevent injury
✔ Gently guide them onto their side if possible
✔ Time the seizure
Avoid:
❌ Holding them down
❌ Putting anything in their mouth
Call emergency services if the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, if they are injured, or if it is their first seizure.
These simple steps can protect someone until medical help arrives.
